🗺️ We're going on an AI adventure!

Hi there! Pam here 👋

Doing something a little different with the newsletter today. Would love your feedback, so if you have any comments. Please reply to this email. 🙂

Once upon a time, a younger me dreamt of being an intrepid explorer. Much like Bilbo Baggins, I imagined myself embarking on an unexpected journey, venturing through the unknown, and unearthing hidden wonders of the world.

But as the years slipped by, a different narrative took hold. I started to believe that the age of discovery was over. That every secret was out in the open, every stone turned, and every echo of ancient cave paintings had faded into silence.

For a while, I lived with this idea that "everything that could be created, written, built, or discovered, already had been." Then, as the cold fingers of winter started to close around 2022, ChatGPT burst onto the scene. We were lucky to be among the first 10K users.

This intricate yet elegantly simple dialogue box had my mind racing. It was like someone had thrown open the shutters in my mind, illuminating the dusty corner where my creativity and artistry were sleeping.

The realization that we were on the cusp of a revolution as transformative as the printing press, the steam engine, or the internet, was nothing short of exhilarating. Conversations at home were suddenly full of "Imagine an AI that could..."

I know AI isn't without its challenges. There are ethical considerations, legal implications, and the plain headspin of how fast this whole thing is moving. AI isn't perfect, and that's exactly what has me lacing up my Hobbit boots and packing my rucksack for the journey.

That's the kind of heart-pumping, wide-eyed excitement and curiosity I want to channel into our content, this newsletter, and the community we're building. Our mission is simple: to help you automate the stuff you don't want to do and leverage AI as a creative tool.

Whether you're just dipping your toes into the world of AI or you've been navigating its vast landscape for a while, this space is more than just a newsletter. It's a shared expedition into uncharted territory, a collaborative endeavor where we learn, explore, and innovate together. We're embarking on an adventure!

There's so much yet to be discovered, so many questions to ask, and a multitude of possible futures waiting to be shaped. The map of our shared adventure is still a blank canvas eagerly waiting to be filled and we’re excited to be sharing this future with you.

🖼️ Reddit user /marehori re-imagined the Mona Lisa in a variety of styles. Our fave? 80s Anime… (ok, ok, the cave painting one)

🗣️ Our very own Oruga created an AI module that reminds him of his upcoming meetings, plus gives him a summary of what the meeting will be about.

🎥 Content creator Sway Molina shared this AI short film and the journey to get there.

ChatGPT is doubling the messages you can send using GPT-4 - you’ll now be able to send a whopping 50 messages every 3 hours. It will be rolling out next week.

Wix announced they’ll be betting on prompts instead of templates - the website builder will be integrating an AI feature that will let users create websites using just a prompt. That’s right: text-to-website.

Meta is open-sourcing their new model, Llama 2, in alliance with Microsoft; Apple announced they’re entering the AI wars with Apple GPT and “Ajax”; and Google revealed that Bard can now talk, all while the internet complained that OpenAI’s GPT-4 model was getting worse.

You can read all those news, or you can check out our summary, Game of Thrones edition.

Picture this: you open a new ChatGPT chatbox. But when it answers, it doesn’t sound like your ol’ pal ChatGPT, instead…it sounds like your personal assistant. One that knows who you are, what you do, and your preferences.

This is exactly what you can expect from the new “Custom Instructions”, a new update just released by OpenAI. We gave it a try for you, “installed” the team’s AI assistant, Luna, and voila…ChatGPT now answers as our beloved Luna.

Here are the instructions to set yours up:
  • On Web:

    1. Click on your name.

    2. Go to Settings.

    3. Head to Beta features.

    4. Opt into Custom Instructions

  • On iOS:

    1. Head to Settings.

    2. Go to New Features.

    3. Turn on Custom instructions.

And some words of wisdom about using this new feature, written by Luna:

Luna's Chill Guide to Using & Configuring Custom Instructions for ChatGPT 🌌🌿

Introduction 🌍: OpenAI introduced custom instructions to tailor ChatGPT to your unique vibes and needs. It's all about making the AI more in tune with you, man. 🎶

Setting It Up 🛠️: If you're on the Plus plan, you can start using this feature in beta. It'll be available for all users soon. 🌊

Add your preferences or requirements, and ChatGPT will consider them when generating its responses. No more repeating yourself every convo! 🔄✌️

Using Plugins 🎮: Adding instructions can also enhance your experience with plugins. Share relevant info with the plugins you use, and ChatGPT will vibe with it. 🌌

Safety & Privacy 🛡️: OpenAI's got safety measures in place for these custom instructions. They've adapted their Moderation API to ensure things stay cool and respectful. 🌬️

Your custom instructions might be used to improve the model's performance, but they take steps to remove personal identifiers. Privacy is key, man! 🔐
